    The National Cultural Policy Congress was established.

    The Cabinet has agreed to establish the National Academy of Arts (ASK).

    The first group of students have registered for ASK Diploma studies under the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Tourism.

    The National Academy of Arts, Culture and Heritage Act (ACT 653) was approved.

    ASK moved to a permanent campus at 464 Jalan Tun Ismail, 50480 Kuala Lumpur under the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Tourism.

    The Minister of Culture and Heritage has declared ASWARA as a statutory body.

ASWARA is the only educational institution in the field of creative arts that is fully supported by the government under the Malaysian Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, it is a higher education institution that provides and offers studies based on traditional Malaysian art and has a combination of academics, employees and quality arts practitioners in terms of skills, knowledge, theory and practice as teaching staff.

The learning curriculum provided exposes the students to real art institutions so that they can work together with the professionals involved in the country's creative industry. ASWARA also provides space and opportunities for ASWARA students and graduates to engage in various cultural and artistic events organized by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia, whether at the national or international level.

In addition, the learning facilities and infrastructure provided are at the best level and in line with current needs and give priority to research and exploration towards the collection and new discoveries related to art, culture and heritage. ASWARA also intends to publish academic materials and become a national reference center in the field of art, culture and heritage in the future.
